Bim Afolami, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Lewisham Deptford, has welcomed new figures from the Office of National Statistics showing a drop of 29.9% in the number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance in the constituency. The figures also a show a drop of 38% in the number of young people on JSA over the last 12 months. Bim believes that this is thanks to the long-term economic plan of the Conservative-led Government that business now feels it can invest in new jobs, not just in Lewisham Deptford, but across the country. These jobs are put at risk by Labour’s plans to increase National Insurance if they win the General Election in 2015. Bim welcomed the figures saying “Labour left a toxic economic legacy, which burdened the UK with rising unemployment and a lack of confidence in the economy. Thanks to the policies of the Conservatives in Government we have reversed that trend and unemployment is rapidly coming down while there are more people in work than ever before. There is still more to do to secure Britain’s economic future but only the Conservatives can be trusted to deliver local jobs for the people of Lewisham Deptford”.
