Lewisham residents are once again able to buy their parking permits face-to-face after its contraversial online move has come under fire. The movement of the payment options unnecessarily victimised vulnerable people in the Borough. A series of reports have highlighted the plight of elderly people who have been left lonely and trapped in their home since the cut in August.
This change was rolled out without consultation and ignored the concerns of residents. The expensive 0845 helpline that was included in the reforms only added salt to the wounds. After serious concerns, Lewisham Council have been forced to back down on their reforms. Despite this victory for the vulnerable in the Borough, many are still being hit with the £120 a year stealth tax to park outside their own homes.
Having backtracked, permits will now be available from Lewisham Library, a central point in the Borough. Parking permits can also be applied for online or by calling 020 8787 5397. For more information visit lewisham.gov.uk/parking
