Conservatives in Lewisham have criticised the Mayor of Lewisham and his Deputy for failing to meet the Mayor of London to discuss the proposed Bakerloo line extension, a vital piece of infrastructure and investment in the borough.
Preparation work for the planned extension, which would see New Cross, Lewisham, Catford and Lower Sydenham stations join the tube network, begun under the former Conservative Mayor of London Boris Johnson. However last year a Freedom of Information request revealed that neither the Mayor of Lewisham nor his Deputy had a single meeting with Boris Johnson to discuss the plans. Now a follow up FOI request has revealed that they have also failed to have a meeting, or had any correspondence with the new London Mayor which is surprising considering their on the same political side.
Chairman of Lewisham Deptford Conservatives Ross Archer criticised the Mayor of Lewisham saying "An extension of the Bakerloo line to Lewisham is vital for the future of the borough, it will bring more investment in the borough, increase capacity on our transport network and help create jobs locally. Given the massive potential of this line I am both surprised and hugely disappointed in the complacency, arrogance and laziness of Lewisham's Labour-dominated council".
