Labour Dominated Lewisham Council Stall on Decision on Millwall
The Labour leadership in Lewisham late yesterday stalled on their decision on the New Bermondsey development at Millwall F.C. This decision to delay came after mounting pressure. We are concerned that they are running and hiding in the hope that the pressure dies down.
The Mayor of London today imitated his support for Millwall F.C. to stay in Lewisham, but he now needs to back that up with actions and call in the decision. Earlier this week the three Chairmen of Lewisham Conservative Associations and the former Conservative Lewisham Mayoral Candidate wrote to the Mayor of London setting out some of our concerns and asking him to call in the decision. Attached below is a copy of that letter.
The Council now need to take this extra time to think again about the Millwall CPO and listen to their own side such as Councillor Hall who opposes the CPO. In February when the Labour leadership in Lewisham come back to decide we hope they block the CPO.
Ross Archer, Chairman of Lewisham Deptford Conservatives, said “The Labour leadership in Lewisham cannot run and hide from this decision in the hope that the pressure dies down. This development has glaring issues. They need to take this extra time and think again.
They should listen to the many Councillors on their own side who oppose the CPO, including Councillor Hall.”
