Conservative candidate for Lewisham Mayor, Simon Nundy, and Conservative councillor Christine Allison have handed in a letter to the Department of Health opposing the downgrading of Lewisham A&E.
Lewisham’s A&E department and maternity services are to be downgraded in the face of fierce opposition by Lewisham residents. Labour’s over-enthusiasm for large flawed PFI contracts led to accumulated debts of £208 million across South London and when the administrators were inevitably called in they recommended reductions in services at Lewisham to help balance the books of a newly formed Greenwich and Lewisham Health Trust.
